Making an Impact:Liberia
Although he has 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Harry Kejr (above) enjoys sharing time with his “extended family” in Liberia. Mr. Kejr is Mel (Geoprobe® President) and Larry’s (Finance Officer) dad. His visit in 2005, shortly after he returned from Panama, was his sixth time there since the early 1970’s to help with construction projects. The picture (below) was made for Mr. Kejr by one of the Liberian children: “Thank you Grandpa Kejr for fixing the grator. Now our road won’t be bumpy. Love Isaac”. Liberia has been the destination of several missions for Geoprobe® people over the past few years. The most notable was a trip in 1995 that was cut short when a Civil War erupted in the western part of Africa. Mel and Steve Fross, Geoprobe® Facilities Manager (who died of cancer in 2003), had ten minutes to gather their belongings before they left the compound at ELWA which is about 12 miles southeast of Monrovia. They were evacuated by a U.S. helicopter a couple days later. They were in country to help rebuild a radio station, hospital, clinic, school, and church that had been destroyed a couple years earlier.
