Jeff Gottula (left), Geologist, and Dave Miesbach, Groundwater Unit Supervisor, both with the NDEQ Water Quality Division, discuss sampling results at the CAFO demo site as the Geoprobe® field team collects more soil core using the 7720DT machine and DT325 sampler.

| Tom Christy, Vice President of Geoprobe Systems®, discusses subsurface information obtained during a field demonstration at a CAFO site in Nebraska. Team Geooprobe®
demonstrated selected direct push tools and methods that can be used by the Agriculture Industry for groundwater, soil, and unconsolidated sediment investigations.
The field site was located on alluvial deposits of the Platte River in Nebraska. |
 |
The Geoprobe® 6625CPT machine, one of two
direct push machines used at the CAFO demonstration
site, was designed for geotechnical cone penetration
testing, but also changes to direct push functions,
including augering, logging, sampling, and monitoring
well installation. |

Wes McCall (right) provides an explanation of the pneumatic slug test system
and software. Slug tests were performed with the SP16 groundwater samplers
to determine estimates of local hydraulic conductivity (K). The information was
used to determine the potential rate of groundwater and contaminant migration.
SP16 groundwater samplers were installed adjacent to selected HPT/EC log
locations. The SP16 allows for collection of high-integrity groundwater samples
from a discrete interval. Screen length can be varied from a few inches to over 3
feet. SP16 samplers were retrieved, decontaminated, and reused multiple times. |
